YOUR SPRAY TAN GUIDE

YOUR SPRAY TAN GUIDE

PRE-TAN PREP

PREPARE FOR A FLAWLESS GLOW! TO ENSURE THE BEST RESULTS AND LONGEST-LASTING TAN, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE PRE-TAN PREPARATION TIPS CAREFULLY.

    • Plan waxing, sugaring, or laser hair removal at least 48 hours before your spray tan.

    • Shaving? Do so at least 2-3 hours prior to your appointment to avoid irritation.

    • Use a body scrub, exfoliating glove, or mitt to remove dead skin cells. Do this at least 24 hours before your appointment for a smooth, even application.

    • Be sure there’s no residual self-tanner or old spray tan left on your skin.

    • Hydrate your skin in the days leading up to your session by drinking plenty of water and applying a good-quality moisturizer daily.

    • On the day of your appointment, avoid applying lotion or oils to your skin. If you have dry areas (like elbows, knees, or ankles), lightly moisturize them 2-3 hours before your appointment to prevent uneven absorption.

    • Come to your appointment with clean, dry skin. Avoid lotions, deodorant, makeup, or oils, as these can create barriers to the spray tan solution.

    • Remove all jewelry before your session (we recommend leaving valuables at home).

    • Stop using retinol, glycolic acid, or active serums (like AHAs or BHAs) 3-4 days prior to your appointment, as they can cause uneven fading.

    • Vitamin C products are okay, but avoid applying them on the day of your appointment.

    • If you’ll be outdoors leading up to your appointment, apply SPF to avoid sunburn. Spray tans do not adhere well to sunburned or peeling skin.

    • Bring dark, loose-fitting clothing to wear after your session. Opt for:

      • Baggy sweatpants, a loose T-shirt, or oversized loungewear.

      • Slides, sandals, or UGGs with loose socks (no tight shoes or sneakers).

    • Avoid wearing bras or anything that might press against your skin while the tan is developing.

    • Schedule manicures, pedicures, massages, or any other spa services at least 24 hours before your tan. These can remove or fade your spray tan if done afterward.

    • Continue moisturizing daily after your tan to keep your skin hydrated and prolong its glow.

DEVELOPMENT TIPS

PROTECT YOUR GLOW WHILE IT SETS. TO ENSURE YOUR SPRAY TAN DEVELOPS EVENLY AND BEAUTIFULLY, FOLLOW THESE POST-TAN DEVELOPMENT TIPS CAREFULLY.

    • Stay dry! Avoid sweating, showering, swimming, or any exposure to water during the development period.

    • Avoid activities like exercising, cooking over steamy pots, or being outdoors in the rain until you’ve completed your first rinse.

    • Refrain from touching your skin with your fingers, arms, or other body parts during development to avoid uneven spots.

    • Be mindful of accidental skin-to-skin contact from others, such as hugs, carrying children, or cuddling with a partner.

    • If you’re sleeping while your tan develops, wear long-sleeved pajamas and full-length sweatpants to prevent skin-on-skin contact during the night.

    • Opt for loose, dark clothing that won’t rub against your skin or absorb the tanning solution.

    • Avoid bras, tight socks, or waistbands that may cause streaking or lines.

    • Skip lotions, deodorants, perfumes, and makeup until after your first rinse. These products can interfere with the development of your tan.

    • Your spray tan solution may require a specific rinse time (e.g., 2-4 hours for express tans or 8-12 hours for traditional tans). Stick to these guidelines for the best results.

    • During your first rinse, use lukewarm water only. Avoid soap or scrubbing—this is just a light rinse to remove the bronzer.

    • Keep from sitting on light or porous surfaces during development. If you must sit, place a towel or dark cloth underneath to prevent transfer.

    • Avoid crossing your legs or wearing tight accessories like watches or rings until after your first rinse.

    • Be mindful of pets: Their fur can rub against your skin, causing streaks or unevenness.

    • Plan ahead: Schedule your spray tan for a day when you can relax and avoid sweating or getting wet during the development time.

RINSING TIPS

LOCK IN YOUR PERFECT TAN! PROPER RINSING IS KEY TO ACHIEVING AN EVEN, LONG-LASTING SPRAY TAN. FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO ENSURE THE BEST RESULTS.

    • Wait the recommended time provided by your technician before rinsing. This varies depending on the type of tan you received (e.g., rapid or traditional).

    • Use lukewarm water only. Avoid hot water, as it can interfere with the tan’s development.

    • Keep your shower brief—1-2 minutes max.

    • No soaps, shampoos, or conditioners during this rinse. These can halt the development process.

    • During the first rinse, you’ll see the cosmetic bronzer washing off. This is normal and does not affect the final result.

    • Rinse until the water runs clear, and use only your hands to lightly guide the solution off your skin. Avoid scrubbing or using a loofah.

    • After your rinse, use a clean towel to gently pat your skin dry. Do not rub, as this could cause streaking or uneven patches.

    • Apply a spray tan-safe moisturizer right after patting dry. Keeping your skin hydrated will help maintain your tan and prevent fading.

  • The development process for a rapid tan can feel different—trust the process!

    • Immediately after your spray tan, your color may appear too dark due to the bronzer.

    • After your first rinse, your skin may seem too light. Don’t worry—your tan will continue to develop over the next 12-24 hours, revealing your perfect shade.

    • Avoid vigorous activity, sweating, or water exposure between your first rinse and full tan development.

    • For your next shower (after full development), you can use a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser to maintain your glow.

    • Always moisturize after rinsing to keep your tan vibrant and your skin healthy.

AFTER CARE TIPS

KEEP YOUR GLOW LASTING LONGER! FOLLOW THESE AFTERCARE TIPS TO MAINTAIN YOUR SPRAY TAN’S RADIANCE AND ENSURE IT FADES EVENLY.

    • Hydrated skin holds a tan longer. Use a spray tan-safe moisturizer twice daily to keep your skin soft and supple.

    • Avoid products with alcohol, sulfates, or mineral oils, as they can cause your tan to fade unevenly.

    • Use a self-tanning lotion, tanning water, or mousse designed for touch-ups to prolong your tan between appointments.

    • Skip high-intensity workouts, hot yoga, saunas, or any activities that lead to excessive sweating. Sweat can cause uneven fading and patches.

    • Switch to low-support sports bras to minimize friction and reduce fading.

    • Chlorine and saltwater can strip your tan, so avoid swimming in pools or hot tubs when possible. If you must swim, rinse off immediately afterward and moisturize.

    • Long baths or soaking in hot water can cause premature fading—stick to quick showers instead.

    • For your first shower after tanning, use lukewarm water only—no soap, shampoos, or conditioners. Rinse gently until the water runs clear.

    • Always pat dry with a clean towel. Do not rub, as this can cause streaking or uneven fading.

    • For subsequent showers, switch to a gentle, sulfate-free body wash to maintain your tan.

    • Use a lotion-based SPF to shield your skin from sun damage and extend your tan. Avoid aerosol sunscreens, as they often contain drying alcohols.

    • Spray perfumes on your clothes or hair instead of directly on your skin to prevent fading.

    • Steer clear of retinols, glycolic acids, and other active ingredients, as these can cause your tan to fade faster.

    • Vitamin C is safe but avoid using it directly before or after tanning.

    • When your tan starts to fade unevenly, gently exfoliate with a mitt or scrub to remove the remnants. This prepares your skin for your next spray tan.

    • Keep clothing loose and friction-free to avoid rubbing your tan off prematurely.

    • For lasting results, drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
